Rationales for engaged scholarship projects in one college at a distance institution

This article aimed to explore engaged scholarship project leaders’ rationales for starting their in communities. Community engagement (or scholarship) has become a required part of the academia and increasingly becoming scholarly endeavor. Academics education faculty at one university South Africa were asked voluntarily participate study exploring projects. Semi-structured interviews held with leaders. Responses indicated four factors rationales, firstly, context selected closely linked leader’s early experiences education, secondly, leaders subjects that known being problematic teach, thirdly, challenges within motivated involved lastly, motivation remain stemmed from wanting develop further. The was limited only focused on rationales. Engaged projects are intertwined personal backgrounds. It is recommended community reflect build more robust
